The wonders of sailing

The meaning of life and how small problems are when you take some distance from them it changes a person. This week I took some literal and figurative distance from my normal life. As I love to sail and I am making it my full-time job I had the opportunity to go on board of a sailing vessel of 60 m with 3 masts.

Being on board of a vessel that is sailing 24/7 gives a unique experience. As third watch officer I was woken up every time the clock turned tot 7:30. I had watch from 8 – 12 once in the morning and the next one in the evening. Depending on wind and weather I start to think about how powerful the ocean can be.

You do your job and make sure you dial a safe route for the next for hours. Afterwards you go back to sleep or hang around with the rest of the crew. It is a great life in which worries you have at home doesn’t exist. The only thing you have to think about is what to do in the next in the next four hours you are on watch.

Within a few days the crew becomes your family and you work as a team to sail the ship to its destination. It was lovely and I was glad I could take a break from normal life. It gave me perspective on how I want to continue to discover myself and what my next steps will be.

For now I leave you with this small update I am exhausted … next week there will be more.
